Enforcer $$$$ Value
I bought the Alpine I4 SC kit a couple years ago, it was $3,495.00 plus shipping. Once installed the car ran like crap. On the advice of Alpine I replaced the crank sensor, no improvement, then the TPS, no change, then the knock sensor, still no change.
Sent the Unichip back and Alpine supposedly checked and retuned it, still no change. Next suggestion from Alpine is a smaller pulley, might have something to do with the CVVT causing lower boost??? Maybe the charge air temps are too high, I make a 3/8" Phenolic intake spacer, again no change. I am learning and realize that the 5th injector is adding way too much fuel and the car is running rich. Give up and just unplug the 5th injector until I can find another tuning option that will work on the Tib. I was getting maybe 5 or 6 lbs of boost at the time and the car runs pretty good just don't let the boost get too high or I might roast my motor. I was considering using a secondary fuel rail when AEM released the FIC. Bought one and a set of SRT injectors, tossed the 5th injector and Unichip. Had a smaller steel SC pulley machined, now get 10 to 11 lbs of boost, still 4 rib belt though. Runs great now. How much did I end up spending for my supercharger setup? I'm not exactly sure, but I can guarantee that the total is well over $4,000.00 and lots of time, effort and frustration. Would I do it again? You bet the SC, when I finally got it right, makes my I4 Tib a way fun car to drive. Is the new NGM SC kit priced fairly at $3,495.00? I think it's a bargain, considering what I spent to get mine right. It uses an MP62 SC instead of the MP45, has a 6 rib drive belt system and will have proven upgrades available for more boost. Be glad it is an available choice and that someone else has done all the work to make it run right before you ever touch it. I would love to have the MP62 on my Tib and there is a good possibility I will end up with the NGM kit on my car at some point. Just can't afford it right now. |

alpine is still attempting to sell their SC kit and for $3400. http://www.alpine-developments.us/ww...u20i4super.htm
Was it difficult to hook up the AEM F/IC? I'm assuming this is the unit you're talking about http://www.aempower.com/ViewCategory...CategoryID=116 |

That's what I was thinking of using to tune it when I get mine.

That's the AEM FIC I have, I used the 30-1910 unit on my Tib. The ECU is almost impossible to get to on my Tib so I extended the wiring that came with the FIC and made all of my connections in the engine bay, lots easier to solder properly that way. The FIC is under the dash on the drivers side by the fuse box. |

It's not all that complicated just a lot of soldering. Probably about 18 wor 20 wires to connect. the install instructions are great. Here'sa link to the FIC manual. http://www.aempower.com/images/produ...ions%20FIC.pdf |
