View Full Version : The "It Does Fit" Thread
mcdwf398 12-13-2006, 07:37 PM This might look familiar...
Alright so the "does it fit" thread was full of a lot of questions, most unanswered, and some info that is difficult to understand. So this thread is going to list sizes that do or don't fit...and some that do with modification or slight rubbing. Most of this info was found by reading through the entire "does it fit" thread. And I am going to copy and paste ProDyno's info for simplicity sake.
So, if you have rims on your Tib please tell us the wheel size/width the tire size you have on it, what kind of drop you have, if any modification was required (i.e. fender roll), and if they rub. Also let us know how well they fill the fenders...post pics if you have them.
If you have any questions that are not answered by this info, I'm sure others on this sight will try to help as best they can so ask away. And obviously if a larger size fits than a smaller one will probably fit to, I am only listing what people have already had on their car.
Note: Slight rub is usually on hard turning in the Front and on bumps in the Rear unless otherwise indicated. Also, items in red rub badly.
The Tiburon's bolt pattern is 5-114.3

If you're confused about offset:
Good Info From Tire Rack:
The offset of a wheel is the distance from its hub mounting surface to the center line of the wheel. The offset can be one of three types (measured in millimeters).*
Zero Offset
The hub mounting surface is even with the center line of the wheel.
Positive
The hub mounting surface is toward the front or wheel side of the wheel. Positive offset wheels are generally found on front wheel drive cars and newer rear drive cars.
Negative
The hub mounting surface is toward the back or brake side of the wheels center line. "Deep dish" wheels are typically a negative offset.
If the offset of the wheel is not correct for the car, the handling can be adversely affected. When the width of the wheel changes, the offset also changes numerically. If the offset were to stay the same while you added width, the additional width would be split evenly between the inside and outside. For most cars, this won't work correctly. We have test fitted thousands of different vehicles for proper fitment. Our extensive database allows our sales staff to offer you the perfect fit for your vehicle.
ST_TIB 12-14-2006, 12:00 AM i have drop zone 2" whit stock 16" wheels and stock size tires. no rub and no modification.http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j68/nismoaz05/moonlit-blue.jpg sorry for the size.
sandman6983 02-04-2007, 02:36 PM I'm a little confused...which one sticks out past the fender farther? An off set of 35 or an offset of 43?

mcdwf398 02-08-2007, 10:36 AM I'm a little confused...which one sticks out past the fender farther? An off set of 35 or an offset of 43?
The 35 will move the wheel more towards the fender and away from the suspension...keep in mind though that most new wheels people buy are wider thatn the stock 17x7 wheel...so they are already moved out in both directions....usually the best offset to go with on the tib is around a 42...
mcdwf398 02-08-2007, 10:38 AM try the first link at the bottom of the first post....enter the stock size on the left and play with the right...it helps to visualize it
Terry 03-17-2007, 10:03 AM the last one under dropzone's is mine. the wheel width is 7.5 FYI thx.

mcdwf398 03-22-2007, 04:16 PM oh yea and FYI...this info is no longer available on nt...I deleted the links and information. I am sick of that sites crap.
sandman6983 12-28-2007, 11:16 PM OK...I have my car lowered with Tein S Techs...I'm looking to get 18x8's. I've read that my offset should be +35. Now my question is do I HAVE to use a 225/40/18 or can I use a 235/40/18 or 245/40/18 with out rubbing? I have the stock 17's on right now with 225/45/17's now with no problems. I really want to get a wider tire on there when I put the 18's on.
dawgincustoms 12-29-2007, 10:47 AM I did measure and had a template for a 17x8 1/2 with 255/40/17 and it would work with 15mm wheel spacers on a +42 offset with the wide body kit. I did have to remove about 2 inches of the stock rear fender and not be able to run any lip in the rear fender flares. Up front the wide fender is the same way plus a lil bit on new fiberglass work. The problem is fitting inbetween the suspension and the rolled fender. I got a lil extra room like 2 inches worth with the wide body. Also I did that dropped on the TEIN Superstreet Coilovers. I made the template out of tin and rivited it together. I have no idea were it went. Prolly got smashed and trashed.
mcdwf398 11-11-2008, 04:25 PM wow I completely forgot i made this thread...bump for usefulness

good thing you made this

18x7.5 +40-45 225/40/18(slight rub, on bumps only)
sandman6983 12-28-2008, 02:26 AM Ok right now I'm lowered on S Techs but plan on getting Tein Coilovers eventually. Just curious if 18x8.5 with a 30 offset will fit with 235x40x18s? There could also be a wide body kit in my future somewhere...not sure yet though.
416TIB 03-05-2009, 03:26 PM I did the calculations but cant figure out if it will rub or not LOL must be the meds. I was wanting to get 17x8 +40 rims and 225/45/17 tires.

so if i have a 18X7.5 43offset or a 18X 8.5 38offset rim size it will fit on the stock tib right? also will a 225/40-18 or 235/40-18 fit on that rim size?

dude, check out this link

stock wheel 215/45/17 17x7 +46 and put your wheels in and then look at the bottom, it'll tell you how much closer in mm to the fenders it'll go. 15mm in the front and 25mm in the back works perfectly on stock height so adjust accordingly.
StallisTib 03-26-2009, 12:24 PM thanks alot, ill be 18mm in front so ill just have to wear the fender a bit.
faus03 03-26-2009, 12:52 PM if you are stock height you will be fine. i had 25mm adapters in the front of my stock wheels on stock height, i just put the 15's on cuz i thought they looked better up there.
sandman6983 06-27-2009, 07:18 AM Ok...I should be buying rims here real soon so here's the question...
Right now I'm running stock 17's with 225/45's sitting on S-Techs (possibly Tein SS Coilovers in the future, maybe) with no problems.
I'm going to be getting the 5Zigen Pro Racer ZR+520 in 18's
What I need to know is, which size and what size tire? I would love to go with a 235 or 245, either 35 or 40, but not sure if its possible. Here are the sizes they have for the rims. Oh and rolling the fenders is not a big deal I can do that np if necessary.
18x7.5 offset +37 +42 +47 +52
18x8.5 offset +25 +32 +37 +47
Thanks for the help guys...I definitely need these to fit right the first time...when I get home they will go on and then I'll be driving cross country about 2 weeks after so no time to send them back...lol...and I can't throw the stockers back on because I have a bent rim. Bad enough that it won't balance, I've been driving on it before I left fine but would rather not go back cross country with it like that. Again thanks.
sandman6983 06-30-2009, 08:03 AM Bump...anybody?
Nalucido 08-14-2009, 02:05 AM Does it fit?
2" drop dropzones
18x8.5 +33 or +45 w/ 225/40/18
or
18x7.5 +33 or +43 or +48 w/ 225/40/18
would both of these fit dropzones w/o fender rolling? If not, which wheel/tire would be best?

You can go with 18x7.5 +42. Only time it may rub is if someones in the back
Does it fit?

hahahha stay away from the 18x8.5 thats gonna rub for sure. 18x7.5+43 should work great.
Nalucido 08-14-2009, 11:41 AM NOO!!!!! lol
I wanted to sport the 8.5. Shoot, what about with a rolled fender? I know it will clear the hub with the 45 offset
TibbyT 08-14-2009, 11:55 AM Anything will work if you do fender work.
Nalucido 08-14-2009, 11:57 AM hmmm... *thinks to himself* would it be worth it

because it doesn't look nearly as cool. WHAT WERE YOU THINKGIN?!!?!? GAWD. :SuN019: *shakes head* I whole-heartedly agree with you btw.
Mines Better 08-15-2009, 10:13 PM ok ok something's off to me...
...b/c it just hit me, an 8.5 inch tire is only 215mm...no?
so what's the problem with fitment now? lol or am i missing something
Nalucido 08-15-2009, 10:15 PM I faded away from the 8.5 idea. It would be too much of a hassle. Although it would look good.
7.5 with spacers is what I attend to do.
Solidandre 08-15-2009, 11:07 PM i have 18 x 8.5 with 225/40/18 tires and no rub :D on teins btw
Nalucido 08-15-2009, 11:44 PM what's the offset of the wheels?
8.5 is cool, hell a 9.5 will fit in the rear with the right offset. A 225 is failrly stretched on a 8.5, hell stock is 7" with a 215. You just need a +stock offset to keep the rim off the suspension.
Nalucido 08-16-2009, 01:49 AM I still want the 18x8.5 +43 with 225/40/18 but people say I need to roll for them to fit w/ dropzone 2" drop all the way around.
If it won't fit, im not rolling, im going with 18x7.5 +44 with 225/40/18
If 225 is stretched on a 8.5 what should be a decent tire size?
A 225 is the median for a 7.5, it all depends on the offset. I am going to run a 235 with an 8.5"(small stretch) with an offset of 30. You'd need to roll the rear fenders(easily done by a mallet and heat gun) but it would be a very nice tuck.
If you want a good tuck, you're going to need to increase your offsets while increasing the width, especially if you want to run a wider rim/tire. The stock offset only allows so much because you'll run into suspension rubs. You can run spacers, but if you're getting a rim I'd just suggest getting the right offset/width fitment from the start.
Nalucido 08-16-2009, 02:12 AM Hmm, with dropzones how do you think:
18x8.5 +33 w/ 235/40/18 will look?
it's either that or
18x8.5 +45 w/ 235/40/18 (which I think is too much offset).
Yeah, you'll for sure rub the suspension without spacers on a 45 offset. I think the +33 might actually fit without a fender roll on the rear.
Nalucido 08-16-2009, 02:15 AM Yeah, you'll for sure rub the suspension without spacers on a 45 offset. I think the +33 might actually fit without a fender roll on the rear.
What about the front? lol
What about the front? lol
The front fender liner will be close on turning and bumps, but a lot better than the suspension rubbing the tire. Just be careful when doing so, and you'll be fine. A 30 offset with 235 is the max without pulling the fenders I'd say with your drop.
Nalucido 08-16-2009, 02:22 AM So anywhere around a 35 would probably be my best bet
Mines Better 08-16-2009, 08:57 AM so u were looking for an 8.5 inch wide RIM, not TIRE? ok that makes a lot more sense. lol
Nalucido 08-16-2009, 11:03 AM lol....yeah Chris.

ct tibby 03-24-2010, 05:17 PM will a 17x8 +53 offset with 225/45/17 fit? im dropped 1.5 in the front and stock in the back
TATTOO 03-24-2010, 05:25 PM Hmmmm I'm thinking you'll rub with that tire. Try 225/35/17. Maybe even 225/40/17. The rear should be fine. Its the front I'm talking about, since its lower'd.
ct tibby 03-24-2010, 05:27 PM well i have a 225/45/17 on my stockers right now and it doesnt rub im just worried about the offset and width
TATTOO 03-24-2010, 05:29 PM Can you get close pics of it? keep in mind, our OEM wheels are 17" x 7" 46mm. you're going to 17x8 53.

yea lol thats what im sayin does that offset bring the rim closer to the fender or closer to the strut?
TATTOO 03-24-2010, 05:32 PM It brings it closer to the strut. A lower offset ie 10 or 20, brings it closer to the fender.
Nalucido 03-24-2010, 05:35 PM There's no way that offset will fit.....mine rubbed on a 44 offset (but im also slammed on coils)

ct tibby 03-24-2010, 05:38 PM sob =( how did u rub with a offset lower then the stockers lol

1slotuscani 07-12-2010, 03:50 PM I'm looking at getting a set of 17x8 +35 with a 235/40 tire. I see that a 18x8 with a 225 will fit. But has anyone done it with a 235/40?
