I had an old Jetta that kept breaking down, and having a 2 year old at the time made it unsafe. So with the help of my parents I purchased a 2001 elantra GT with 42K miles on it for $8000 in July of 2004. Only mods were aftermarket stereo, SRI, and Surf Racks. 13 months later this happened:

Fell asleep at the wheel on the way home from work. That pole didnt move out of my way! well after i walked away without a scratch from a pretty serious accident I couldnt see myself driving anything else. I searched for almost a month before I found another XD Hatch that was 5speed and in good condition. So I bought my 02 GT bone stock September 2nd 2005. Its been almost 2 years and about $7k later with a Motor swap this is what i have.

Thanks, the paint on the hood isnt in the best shape. im thinking about getting a 2 tone paint job done. go with a CF hood and paint the top half of the car black. havent decided yet, would rather put that money into going with this new i4 supercharger.

Ported and Pollished intake manifold goes in tomorrow.... look for pics.

cant wait to sell it once i slap that new blower on there!

Just had my windows Tinted! i was trying to keep it as close to legal as possible to avoid getting pulled over. i went with 50% for the front 2 windows, 35% the rest of the way around, and 35% windshield banner. In the sun it looks really light, but in the dark it looks alot darker. im very happy with the tint job, it has a lifetime warranty. i paid $200 and got a free bottle of Gliptone tint cleaner. i have a ton of pics in different lighting........ anyone got any hints on cleanin up that SS Header? i tried using a SS cleaner, but didnt do anything.

Don't clean it, wrap it! Even if you get it spotless it will be tarnished again in a few days.

Headerwrap is not a prob. It is if you have a turbo :)

It can cause the pipes to expand and contract a little more because of trapping the heat, but as long as you don't have sloppy welds etc, it is no big deal.

Heres a little update....

new exhuast should be on wednesday (was supposed to go on today but my buddy's lift was occupied.

also just got an Apexi Turbo Timer (i had a cheap ebay immitation but it stopped working)

The tunner i was supposed to go to is having problems with other cars and still hasnt had a chance to practice with the software on their company car. it will at least 3 weeks before he is able to tune mine. im gonna start looking around for another shop, even if i have to drive quite a ways.

as things get done you know i'll post pics and vids!

They're an epoxy self-adhering emblem and only cost like $5. I'll see if one of my buds in Korea can just mail over a couple for ya if you'd like to grab 'em. The only info I'd need from you is the measurement of the emblem space in millimieters. There are three different sizes of these oval "GT" emblems, so I just want to make sure I've got the correct ones. (Though I'm sure they'll know exactly which ones your car requires).

I definately want one, i'll try and get a measurement for you, but i would want 1 for the trunk. its an 02 GT, i have an "Elantra GT Club" one in the front, but im in the middle of fixing my meshed grille.

ok so i bought a used Downpipe back exhaust from the guy i bought my turbo and intercooler from for $300 shipped. its a 2.5" stainless steel mandrell bent exhaust. it came with a test pipe and a section with a highflow cat. the muffler is brand new looking magnaflow. the exhaust looked amazing, no discoloration of the pipes and clean. so i spent 3 hours with 2 of my friends trying every combination of angles and switching pipes around. i was able to get the test pipe to work, but then the hangers didnt line up (too long) so i put my exhaust back on and went today to have the exhaust shop install it. this is the same exhaust shop i've been to for the past 3 years (4th time there). i know the guy who runs the shop and he does great work, hes a straight shooter and is a perfectionist (good and bad! ahha). so he looks at the exhaust and starts shakin his head. he didnt like the fact that there were welds all over the place. instead of mandrel bending a section of pipe, there were like 5 pre bent pipes welded. and there was no flex pipe. he refused to install an exhaust without a flex pipe. he said for a FWD car (especially with more HP than stock without a flex pipe i would break the bolts on the exhaust) anyway so it was $175 for the stainless steel flex pipe, he only charged me $25 for cutting and welding that in as well as reangleing the flange and adding a new bung (since the old bung is where the flex is). then he put new hangers on the entire exhaust. he had to add a section, blah blah blah, bastardized the entire exhaust in 2hrs. end result was $350 added to a $300 exhaust. im not happy. o on top of that the exhaust was run between the chasis and the tie rods. so now with my car dropped if i hit a little bump, it clanks the tie rods. it should be run over the chasis, so when i throw my H&R springs on if it still rubs, im gonna have im cut that section off and do an under axle angled exhaust!

anyway i plan on doing a new member ride 1st post. its just good to see the progress too. there will be alot more progress this summer. i have a bunch of mods already purchased waiting to go in as well as a few more mods waiting to be purchased. my car will be getting a couple grand more in mods in the next month or so. after thats done then i'll do a new one

Holy crap, that is by far the nicest Elantra I've ever seen. My buddy has a black GT sedan, and I always tell him he could make it look pretty sweet, but he doesn't get into cars at all, and just sees modding them as a waste of money. To each their own I guess.

Anyhow, the kit looks sick, and the turbo is awesome. You have new numbers yet? Also when you say start a new one, do you mean you'll get rid of this car???
