View Full Version : PERFECT Wheel & Slick Combination For Tiburon Information!!!

Hello,

Here are a couple links for the perfect wheel and slick combination that fits the Tiburon like a glove. This is the same combination on Chad's car that netted us a 11.86@115mph. All you have to do is grind a little off of the connecting bar on the caliper floater. Its a 30 minute job for both sides.

Thanks T.C.

Hey TC thanks for the info

i already got some MT slicks that are 8in not the 8.5's, they will still work with those rims right?

Can someone post a photo of exactly where we need to grind?

Thanks!

So we would have to grind a little more if we have the xg350 caliper conversion then huh? damn.

Will they fit under the wheel wells on extremely lowered cars (2-2.5")?

I'm lowered 1-1.5" with the Eibach Pro-Kit and I would say that's about the limit. Maybe a little more...

If your car is too low just throw a pair of the $5.00 spring rubbers under there and problem solved.

I never got an answer to this question, but will these wheels fit with xg350 calipers on?

Bakerking31

i highly doubt it, you have to shave some of your stock caliper for it to fit, and a xg350 caliper is bigger than a stock one ... so no

I guess I will have to have fun finding rims to fit over the 13'"bbk fr the occasion when I go to the track. I was just going to swap back to stock brakes but will have to wait and see.

if you use a small wheel spacer will the grinding be an issue?

I don't think so... it actually might be better because you'll gain clearance between the wheel and caliper.

hhmmmm.... well i might do that then since i can get some on the cheap. do you think 15mm is enough?

dude...why are you gonna waste money on "huge" ass slicks? it'll be way too much for ur sportage

im not really looking for me. I dont think ill go to the track enough im just putting thoughts out there.
but considering i need to put new rubber on my stock wheels i might get some sticky sports tires.

As far as sticky performance itres .. I would go with the Hankook R-S2 Z212 Best investment I made .... No more spinning in second gear ..

those were the best tires i ever ran on the tib, i could cut 1.9 60' times with them!

Ok, bringing this thread from the dead!

To what point, is this set-up too much? I know chad had 380whp. Will this setup be too much for 280whp?

doesn't go by HP. goes by gearing, and tire height. these are fine for you. they're more suited for the auto guys.

also, you may not be able to fit a 8.5 inch wide tire on a 2 inch drop b/c of the tire height..keep that in mind too..not quite sure

thought u decided not to waste money on slicks?

I'll do what Tim said, add some rubber spacers on track days :302:

I emailed the president of racing operations for our shitty track. He said, Slicks will be allowed this year  I'm fucking excited y0!

So if these our more auto suited, what you guys recommend for us Manual tibbys?

holy shit, badass!

normally a taller slick would be better for the manual guys...a 26 inch tall tire with the stock limiter. u have the raised limiter, right? 7300?

lemmie do the math for u and i'll let you know.

and this doesn't mean u can't use these slicks...just would be better if you can get it so you stay in your 1:1 gear while crossing the finish line...using these will make u be in 5th gear across....actually, i take that back. i forgot you should only be trapping about a 105...so these slicks are actually perfect for you. now, if you plan on running faster times maybe with a faster setup (so i guess HP could in a way be considered as counting...but more so your track times and mph) then you'll eventually want a taller tire.

ok, good news. b/c of your higher limiter (7300), it actually puts you with this tire being exactly what you want and gives you plenty of room to move up in HP (faster times, higher mph). :)

Fucking awesome! thanks for the help homie ;) our next track day, is the 26th of this Month :) Don't think I'll be going tho. I need traction bars, Slicks, and the wheel lol (I can't add rep to ya lol)

u don't want to just go and see what you can do anyway? so u have numbers to compare to for when you get better traction mods?

TATTOO
03-09-2010, 08:34 PM
Not really. Plus, you know how I am, I may break something lol might as well be with slicks LMAO

Mines Better
03-09-2010, 08:39 PM
nah u ain't gonna break anything on street tires...there's no stress on anything. with slicks, you're a lot more likely to break something. make sure u don't go dumping the clutch high...stay around 3k at max to be save with the slicks.

Fo sho :) I'm gonna launch her at 2.5k, then prob 3.5k :302: dude, I'm sooo excited lol I hope, I can make the run somewhere in mid April :) (must gather monnies)

Mines Better
03-09-2010, 09:17 PM
stick with 3k as your max...stock tach's aren't very accurate, and you don't want to think you're launching at 3.5k, while actually launching at 4.5k.

You know it :302: it'll be my first time racing my car in slicks. How does it feel compared to street tires?

One more question, what PSI should I have these babies?

I know I said it A LOT already, Altho our track is high in elevation, and hardly gets prep'd, I'm really stocked!!!! to use slicks :icon_domokun:

here a quick question. can the tibs axels handle full slicks. without snapping or braking anything?

here a quick question. can the tibs axels handle full slicks. without snapping or braking anything?well...i was kinda referring to this already just a couple of posts up if you read it :p

but w/o an lsd you are very likely to break something with slicks, if you launch high. hell, even with an lsd if you dump it high enough u'll break them.

my advice is not to dump it any higher than 3k with slicks. i'm sure some people may do it slightly higher or slightly lower...but from just one person, i would avoid going any higher, for the pure fact of stock tach's not being very accurate. :)

ask chad for that one, but i'm pretty sure TC said with these sized slicks (height and width) he ran it at 10.5 psi and found it to be the sweet spot.

the slicks posted in this thread, about 10.5 psi. i usually run smaller slicks with a little more psi..usually around 12. :)

now this might be a silly question but the drive lines can still take the pre burnout for warming them up cant they? or that will brake something. also is there any one that makes stronger parts for the whole drive system for the 6spd guys?
